Suggested application: may be helpful for residents in middle or late stages of dementia. To assist resident if necessary, puzzle can be either presented partially completed, or with each piece traced onto backing board, numbered and then matched to corresponding piece.
Puzzles can be used to encourage concentration, planning, completion of task, and eye-hand co-ordination. The 'nostalgia' series of puzzles can also be incorporated as an activity for a reminiscence group session.
Puzzles may also be useful in reinforcing fine motor skills, assisting visual discrimination of colour shape and size, mathematical and logical sequencing etc.
