Voice recognition technology allows the user to navigate through each cooking session by speaking into the Nintendo DS microphone. Tips and demonstration videos assist the user in cooking and preparing recipes. Each step of the preparation process is spoken to the user and can be repeated by speaking into the Nintendo DS microphone. The user is able to make notes by writing on the Nintendo DS touch screen with the Nintendo DS stylus.
The cooking guide contains 250 recipes from around the world, each prepared by qualified chefs from the Tsuji Academy in Japan.
Recipes can be searched by key ingredients, name of the dish, difficulty of preparing the dish (easy, normal or challenging), country of origin, photograph of the dish, calorie count, dish of the day, specific cooking techniques, how long the dish takes to cook, available ingredients, or a combination of these.
When required, the user can request further information about a dish, ingredient or cooking technique by saying "more details". It also explains the details of cooking techniques in simple, jargon free language to assist the user to understand what is required. A video of each step is also provided.
Serving size can be adjusted according to the number of people the meal is being prepared for, and the recipe is automatically adjusted accordingly.
A shopping list function allows the user to check if they have all of the required ingredients by providing a list of ingredients which can be viewed by the user. By using the stylus and touch screen the user can add ingredients that they do not have available to a shopping list. A calculator function is incorporated into the shopping list to assist in keeping track of costs.
A built in cooking timer helps to keep track of the cooking time. The timer can be accessed by saying "timer" and then started by saying "start timer".
The recipe can be navigated from step to step by saying "continue". More difficult steps have explanatory video demonstrations to guide the user through the techniques required to prepare the dish. Explanatory videos can be accessed by saying " more detail".
