A Telephone Typewriter (TTY) is a text based device that enables people who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment to communicate via the National Relay Service. The conversation appears on a small display. Some models have a printer and/or an auto answer facility. All TTY`s use baudot code as the basic communication protocol. System requires rebooting when connecting to NBN, also requires a battery backup box to allow it to work during a power failure.

Compatability (System Requirements)
Telstra has advised that the TTY system will work with the NBN. It requires the unit to be unplugged, re plugged and turned back on. They also recommend that the user contact NBN and request a battery back up unit to enable the system phone to work if there is a power failure. (Nov 2018)
