The Smart/Speak is a static display speech generating device with 32 message keys arranged as 4 rows of 8 keys. The device uses digitised (recorded) speech output and is available with 6 levels. It is designed to select the level automatically by the hole pattern punched on the overlay. The device has an embedded keyguard and messages are activated by pressing the keys.

The voice volume can be adjusted using the turn dial located on the back of the device.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary can be represented by symbols or text printed onto an overlay and inserted into the device over the message keys.
The Smart Speak can support 6 overlays per Flash memory card.

The recording time for each message on a standard Smart Speak is 10 seconds.
The device is available with 6 levels providing up to 192 messages.
Additional Flash memory cards can be purchased, with 6 levels available per memory card.
