Cobolt Speechmaster Talking Calendar Clock Instructions

Before adjusting your clock please note that it is fitted with a removable front cover which must be un-clipped in order to expose the setting buttons. There are four buttons on the front face in two rows. The top row buttons are slightly wider apart than those on the lower row. The top left button reports the date, the top right reports the time. In normal operating mode the lower right button will advise whether the alarm or hourly report have been selected.

To set any of the clock functions use the lower left button - each press will step through to the next function and once the end of the list is reached it will start again at the beginning. The lower left "Set Up" button speaks the existing setting. The lower right "Status" button changes the setting from what it is now to the next alternative e.g. from ALARM OFF to ALARM ON, from 9 O'CLOCK to 10 O'CLOCK, from 1997 to 1998 and in the case of years progressively up to 2040 and then back to 1997 again. Once the settings have been adjusted pressing either of the top row buttons will take the clock out of setting mode and the lower right button will revert to its function of advising you of the alarm status.

The selectable functions have been arranged in order of priority - the most commonly used ones appearing first. Most of the functions are self explanatory, such as setting the time etc, but several are unique and are used as follows:-

SNOOZE ON/OFF With SNOOZE OFF, when the alarm sounds pressing any button will stop it. The clock will say "STOP ALARM" followed by the time. With SNOOZE ON, when the alarm sounds pressing any button will stop it temporarily - the clock will say "SNOOZE" followed by the time and the alarm will sound again after 10 minutes. If any button is pressed within 5 seconds of the clock saying "SNOOZE" the alarm will be switched off until the next day.

VOLUME The volume settings of the speech and alarm can be adjusted independantly.

ALARM SOUNDS You have 11 different sounds to choose from.

TIME STYLE You can choose to have the time spoken in either the usual precise format or in a more relaxed but less precise form.

DATE & TIME SETTING Once the date has been set the clock automatically works out the day of the week. This means that the day of the week for any future or past date can be obtained by setting the date and pressing the top left button. In order to enable you to precisely synchronise your clock with a reference- (speaking clock, time signal etc) the seconds are reset to zero each time the minutes are changed.

AUTO SUMMER-WINTER ON/OFF If selected ON your clock will automatically adjust itself 1 hour forward in the Spring and 1 hour back in the Autumn on the appropriate dates. If selected OFF this will not happen. Your clock has been programmed with the correct dates until the year 2011 but should these dates be changed in the future this automatic feature can be selected off.

Your clock is powered by either an optional 7.5v 150mA centre positive mains adaptor or a 9V PP3 battery housed in a compartment on the back of the case at the left end. There is a small recess in the centre of the inner edge of the cover which houses the release catch - this should be moved slightly to the left to release the cover. Please ensure that no buttons have been pressed for 20 seconds prior to changing the battery and that none are pressed until the new one has been fitted. This will normally enable you to change the battery without losing any of the settings. If any information is lost during the battery change the clock will warn you by saying "CLOCK RESET". We strongly recommend that an alkaline battery is used for maximum life. If using the adaptor do not connect or disconnect it while the clock is speaking as this may cause it to lock. If this happens remove & re-fit the batteries then re-set the clock.
