Space Drive II is a system of software and hardware based electronic driving components, designed for those with progressive illnesses and disabilities, high level paraplegia, quadriplegia or limited strength and movement in the upper limbs. There are a variety of reduced effort controls suitable for a wide range of disabilities. The Space Drive controls have been designed to be positioned anywhere to suit the driver. Each System utilises fly-by-wire technology offering fast response and minimal effort.

The system to be finely tuned through a number of different mechanical and computerised features, so that it meets the individual's unique requirements. This function also allows the system to be adapted to accommodate an individual's degenerative condition, without the need for expensive modifications.
Each Space Drive Steering System has four function in built buttons. These can be used to operate secondary functions such as Indicators, Dip, Horn, etc. It can also be fitted with an Electronic Gear Selector and the buttons used to select Park, Drive, etc

Touch Pad Gear Selection
* Space-Drive Touch Pad Gear SelectionTouch sensors for gear selection in a vehicle with automatic transmission. The device can be programmed to initiate a key-less start.
Mini Wheel
* The Mini wheel is only 150 mm in diameter and is for people no longer able to turn a normal steering wheel. It is ergonomically designed and is extremely accurate. It is designed to easily perform low speed maneuvering and parking as well as high speed turns. It can be installed with optional integrated touch sensors for automatic transmission gear selection and/or an adapted armrest.
Accelerator-Brake Lever
* An electronic acceleration and braking system. To operate: push forward for acceleration and pull back for brake. It can be programmed to meet the respective needs of the individual in terms of the operating range and strength required.
Secondary Function Touch Pad and Voice Command
* Space-Drive Accelerator-Brake LeverTouch sensors for operation of secondary functions including horn, low and high beam headlights and windscreen wipers. The device can also perform a key-less start. If necessary, it is also possible to operate secondary functions by voice command
Licensing and Insurance Requirements
You are legally required to advise your State licensing authority of any medical condition or disability that may impact on your driving. If not, you risk fines or legal action and your car insurance can be affected. You may need to provide medical reports or undergo driving tests. Modifications to your vehicle must be in line with the Australian safety and design rules. Fitting of wheelchair occupant restraints, child restraints and vehicle hoist ramps must meet relevant Australian Standards. Modifications should be done by suitably qualified vehicle modifiers. You will also need to inform your car insurer of any vehicle modifications. Your policy may become void if you do not do so. Contact the vehicle licensing / registration authority in your State for more information.
