Extra product information
Wrist transmitter:
The person at risk of wandering wears a wrist transmitter. The transmitter is waterproof and the battery life lasts approximately up to one year. Spare wrist straps are provided and batteries may be replaced on a transmitter exchange basis.
As person approaches an exit door fitted with an alarm kit the wrist transmitter sends out a radio signal. The signal is picked up by the door alarm and identifies that the wanderer is nearby. When the door is opened the door responder triggers an audible alarm and sends a radio signal back to the nurse station alarm panel, host computer or paging transmitter depending on the type of nurse call system in use.
The system can be set up to automatically lock the door when the wander alert is triggered.
Door Kit:
At each exit door an alarm kit is installed that senses the wanderer as they open the door and generates an alarm.
The door kit contains a door induction field resonator unit, and a door wireless tag responder, connected to a reed switch on the door.
For corridors and archways and similar situations, an infra-red sensor or beam may be used to confirm the passage of the person past that point.
An alarm signal may be transmitted via a wireless communication to the nurse station alarm panel and/or the existing nurse call system.
Door Responder Panel:
The Wander Alert Door Responder is the control unit located at the exit door to recognise a wandering resident and activate an alarm. Two modes of operation are available for wandering patient alarms. Day mode: the alarm is triggered when a wandering resident wearing a wrist transmitter opens the protected exit door. Night mode: the alarm is triggered when any person opens the door connected to the door responder.
It also provides a local 'buzzer' alarm alert which requires the carer to attend and the press the reset button therefore ensuring that the wanderer alarm is attended.
The wander alert requires some wiring and a power point to install.
