An electrically operated, mobile bed which integrates with the Barton positioning and transfer system (PTS) to allow a single caregiver to transfer patients independently. It has expandable width and length and adjustable height, backrest, leg raise, trendelenburg and reverse trendelenburg. Other features include the swingaway trapeze, side egress bars and a built in digital scale. May be suitable for bariatric use.

Steps for patient transfer using the Barton PTS
1. Set up convertable stretcher next to patients bed.
2. Attach straps of The Barton PTS to bedsheet.
3. Turn crank on the bar of The Barton to begin patient transfer. The sheet will roll onto the bar as the patient is gently transferred from bed to stretcher.
4. In preparation for transportation, remove The Barton from the convertible stretcher.
5. Convert the stretcher into a mobile chair, moving patient to an upright sitting position.
