Webbing harnesses designed for children and adults who require more support than provided by a standard seat belt. An additional groin strap/anti-submarine strap is also available. The harnesses are adjustable and available in 3 sizes. This harness must be used in conjunction with car seat-belt.

General Details

Options

Options include an anti-submarine strap and a tether strap (used in station wagons and other vehicles where a longer strap is required to reach the anchorage point).

Method of Use

1. Instructions (including a diagram) are provided with the product. Study the diagram in conjunction with the harness. It will be seen that the lower chest strap passes through the loop sewn on the vertical shoulder straps. Pass the chest strap through the loops that are appropriate to the mass of the child.
2. Fit the harness to the child so that the lower chest strap passes under the armpits and connects the webbing to the metal "D" rings. Adjust around the child firmly.
3. Sit the child on the vehicle seat and pass the vehicle lap belt through the loops that are appropriate to the mass of the child. The lap belt should be tight across the pelvis.
4. Connect the upper tongue to the parcel shelf buckle and adjust the buckle strap so that it holds the child firmly.

Cleaning Requirements

All webbing straps and buckles must be maintained in good order. Webbing can be cleaned with mild soap and water.

Licensing and Insurance Requirements

You are legally required to advise your State licensing authority of any medical condition or disability that may impact on your driving. If not, you risk fines or legal action and your car insurance can be affected. You may need to provide medical reports or undergo driving tests. Modifications to your vehicle must be in line with the Australian safety and design rules. Fitting of wheelchair occupant restraints, child restraints and vehicle hoist ramps must meet relevant Australian Standards. Modifications should be done by suitably qualified vehicle modifiers. You will also need to inform your car insurer of any vehicle modifications. Your policy may become void if you do not do so. Contact the vehicle licensing / registration authority in your State for more information.

Extra product information

MATERIALS: seat belt webbing 500mm in width

COMPONENTS: webbing H style harness with optional addition of groin strap and tether strap

METHOD OF CLOSURE: The Harness attaches to the tether strap via a tongue and buckle closer. The harness is secured to the seat by threading the webbing through a buckle.

METHOD OF ATTACHING: the Harness is attached to the vehicle via the child restraint anchorage bolts. If these are not already in the vehicle they will need to be installed. Additional mounting plate must be installed if child/adult is heavier than 36kg.

FITTING: the harness is designed to be used in a sitting position. The harness can be placed on the client prior to entry to the vehicle and then secured if desired. Seatbelt is then fed through the harness for safety.

VEHICLES SUITABLE FOR: The harness can be used in the back seat of any type of vehicle which has a child anchorage point. It is preferred that seats with a lap and sash belt are used where possible.

SAFETY: Child restraints are designed to restrain the skeletal structure of the trunk. Compression of the abdominal area must be avoided. A harness should be worn across the lap and chest. The harness is designed to be used in addition to the standard lap or lap and sash seat belt. It should never be used instead of a seat belt.

Caution

This product does not meet Australian Standards. It is required by law that a medical certificate from a medical practitioner, and a letter of exemption from the Department of Transport, Vehicle Safety and Standards, be obtained before use.

===

The webbing should be checked regularly for signs of wear or fraying.
It must be replaced immediately if it has been worn during a collision.

Installation

Comes with instructions for installation.
Small harness is attached to the car's child anchor points. These are not to be used for the medium or large size, as these are not strong enough in the event of a collision. Additional mounting plates required where child/adult is heavier than 36kg.
NOTE : Please consult your nearest child restraint fitting station or traffic authority for vehicle inspection in order for the optimum position to be indicated for the placement of the anchorage point, and for the correct bolt length and use of spacers.
The restraint must be used in conjuction with an adult lap or lap/sash belt. It is fitted in a similar fashion to other child restraint devices. The harness may require an extension strap to allow fitment into station wagons, vans or hatchback type vehicles.
Three sizes of extension straps are available:
- 300mm (part number 1800071)
- 500mm (part number 1800072)
- 700mm (part number 18000713)
