Scissors are an essential household item. They can be useful when undertaking arts and craft, food preparation, gardening and self care activities.

In this section you will find: - Self-opening/ spring loaded scissors - Rolling scissors - Left-handed scissors - Push down table-top scissors - Battery powered scissors - Scissors with large handles and loops - Tailor's scissors - Nail scissors - Children's scissors

When selecting scissors it is important to consider:

  • What they will be used for. For example, in the kitchen to open food packaging.

  • Whether you are right or left handed. Right handed scissors are more common, but left handed and ambidextrous scissors are also available.

  • The size of the scissors. Small scissors have greater precision than larger ones.

  • The type of blades. Pointed blades are sharper, while scissors with rounded or blunted blades are safer for children to use.

  • The size and shape of the handles or loops. Scissors with larger handles are easier to grip, whilst those with longer loops allow the strength of the fingers to be utilized.
