Bikes, tricycles and carts refer to devices that assist people to cycle more independently. There are a range of bikes, tricycles and carts available on the market for children and adults who want to engage in cycling.

The bikes, tricycles and carts can be customised to suit individual requirements and are available in a range of sizes and colours. Options for modification can include hand pedals or hand crank options, adjustable back support, handbrakes or back wheel locking brakes or handle bar modification such as standard grips or loops. Support from an Occupational Therapist will help to determine which specific modifications of the bike, tricycle or cart are most suitable to the the abilities and requirements of the individual.

  • Is the load capacity of the bike, tricycle or cart suitable for the individual?
  • How will the individual steer and manoeuvre the device?
  • Are the brakes suitable? Is a harness required? Are there adjustable straps for a growing child?
  • Does the bike/tricycle/cart comply with Australian Standards?
  • Are there storage areas/bags/pockets provided for the individual’s personal items, food items or water bottle?
  • Warranty details and availability of servicing.
